Seat Belt Compliance News Conference

Nearly 100 law enforcement officers will join Governor Frank Keating on the south steps of the state Capitol in a united effort to save lives.

Commissioner of Public Safety Bob A. Ricks has called for a statewide plan of action to achieve a 70 percent safety belt compliance rate by July 2000.

We have focused on education and raising public awareness. Now it's time to focus on enforcement," said First Lieutenant Stewart Meyer. "Simply put, it's the law and by wearing it, you might be saving your life."

The kickoff for this consolidated effort is a press conference on Thursday, January 20 at 2 p.m. Press packets will be available.
