Escort Vehicles/Pilot Cars
Escort Reciprocity
Oklahoma has entered into reciprocal compacts and agreements with the following states for the purpose of recognizing escort vehicle operator certifications issued by those states:
- Colorado
- Florida
- North Carolina
- Utah
- Virginia
- Washington
As of July 1, 2006, to meet reciprocity requirements, an escort vehicle/pilot car operator must have "not less than One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00) combined single limit coverage for bodily injury and/or property damage as a result of the operation of the escort vehicle, the escorted vehicle, or both causing the bodily injury and/or property damage".
If you choose to operate your escort vehicle/pilot car in Oklahoma only, you may ask for a restricted certification that will be good only in Oklahoma. The insurance requirement above will not be mandatory.
If you need the full certification, you must have the minimum insurance described above. In addition, you must carry a "Certificate of Insurance" that clearly states that you have the insurance described above. The certificate is not your vehicle insurance verification - it is a separate certificate of insurance.
