Boating Safety Media Day
Media are invited to attend the 2000 Boating Safety Media Day on Tuesday, June 27 at Lake Arcadia in Edmond, just prior to the highest attended boating holiday of the season.
This event will begin at 6 a.m. and is a combined effort of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Edmond Police Department, Oklahoma City Police Department and the Oklahoma Lake Patrol Section. Representatives from each agency will be on hand to distribute boating safety information and answer questions for the media.
Reporters are encouraged to participate in hands-on boating and personal watercraft maneuvers. Be sure to dress appropriately for the lake activities. Officers will coordinate a mini operator's course for reporters to experience firsthand the proper procedure for recreational vessels. Officers will also demonstrate and provide participation in search-and-rescue operations with an airboat.
Reporters will have the opportunity to interview officers about water safety and new boating laws to be aired/printed prior to or during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. A fact sheet with up-to-date statistics and applicable info will be available.
The event will be held at the Scissor Tail Boat Ramp located on the South side of Arcadia lake on 15th Street. Take exit 140 from I-35 and turn east to the road enters the park. Follow the signs leading to the boat ramp. If you have any questions or need additional information, call Trooper Mark Brown at 425-2143 or pager 559-0184.
